The Facebook IPO

On the eve of Facebook’s IPO, it is important to keep perspective. The tech punditry says Facebook could be worth one 100B dollars, 1/4 the value of Exxon or Apple. That could be true. Will it last? No. Remember, News Corp bought Myspace for 580M, and sold it for 35M. Ouch. Facebook does social media much, much better than Myspace, yet it is still the same thing: willful participation. The Internet mob is fickle. Something with a better privacy policy will come along, acing out Facebook. When it does, investors will hold the loss. Will it be you?
